Campaigns
Essex Wildlife Trust is actively campaigning for many important conservation issues.
It was involved in Petition Fish, calling for a Marine Bill to be included in the Queen's Speech, which was achived in the Queen's Speech, November 2008. It is now lobbying MP's to highlight the importance of marine reserve areas within the Marine Bill under the direction of The Wildlife Trusts.
The Wildlife Trusts campaigned against a proposed badger cull as a way of controlling bovine Tb in cattle. Wildlife Trusts throughout the UK opposed the proposed cull. In 2008 a cull was rejected by the Government and in 2009 a test was announced to vaccine badgers against bovine Tb.
Climate change is almost certainly the most significant challenge facing nature conservation today, with the potential to have significant impacts on the future of the UK and global biodiversity. The Wildlife Trusts are leading The Living Landscapes vision across the country. Here in Essex there are 80 potential Living Landscapes where large well connected, wildlife rich areas are created by joining fragmented landscapes together. These large areas and their ecosystems will function well, ensuring they are robust enough to deal with climate change and land use change so that they can provide long term benefits for both wildilfe and local communities.
