Essex Local Wildlife Sites

Local Wildlife Sites (LoWS) are extremely important areas of land with significant wildlife value.  They can support both locally and nationally threatened species and habitats.

There are 1600 Local Wildlfie Sites in Essex and many of these sites contain species that are recognised to be important under the UK Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP), which sets out strategies for the conservation of our most vulnerable wildlife.

Local Wildlife Sites are absolutely fundamental as they provide a vital contribution towards maintaining the current level of wildlife in Essex.

Essex Wildlife Trust needs to reach the many landowners who own these sites across the county.  The National Indicator 197 seeks to improve the condition of at least 30% of all local wildlife sites across the county by Spring 2011.  In Essex this represents a very challenging target of 429 Local Wildlife Sites.

If you know a landowner/manager please can you forward their details to Essex Wildlife Trust or make them aware of this important work.

Landowners of Local Wildlife Sites can get advice and help with grant funding and management to maintain these important habitats by contacting Adam Rochester, Local Wildlife Sites Officer at Essex Wildlife Trust.
