Habitat: freshwater marshes, estuaries, shores and inland reservoirs

Widespread and common resident

Brown upperparts and white below; black on face, legs orange with orange and black bill

May feed slowly or fast like all plovers

Eats Invertebrates; in flight shows prominent wingbar

Nest is a bare scrape on ground

2-3 Broods May – July; 4 eggs buff, spotted brown
