Marks Hill Conservation Work Parties are held most Sunday mornings and some week days from the beginning of September to the end of March. Meet at 9 am at Marks Hill entrance on Staneway (north west side) by the green farm gate and seat. NB: Parking is not permissible on the verge; please park inside the gate. The Essex and Kent marshes were, until the beginning of the C20, considered to be very unhealthy. Inhabitants of the marshes suffered from the Ague, or Marsh Fever. The talk describes the problem and discusses whether it was Malaria, and the impact it had on the environment and the local population.
