Chafford Gorges Nature Park

Events at Chafford Gorges  -  Visit our Facebook page

January 2019: Essex Wildlife Trust (EWT) has made the very difficult decision to close their trading business, comprising of a café and small shop, at the Chafford Gorges Visitor Centre. The visitor centre will continue to be an important part of EWT’s activities, with staff based at the site prioritising our main charitable aims of Educating and Conserving nature. The trading element of our visitor centres is an addition to our charitable aims to financially support our main charitable works. As this was no longer a viable option, the regrettable decision was taken. The visitor centre is currently closed to the public and there is no access to the toilets. Please check our event pages to see what is coming up at Chafford Gorges, including guided walks and educational events.

Visitor centre facilities

November 2017: Essex Wildlife Trust has decided to close the retail and café element of Chafford Gorges Visitor Centre, whilst the Trust carries out some research into the most suitable, long-term, sustainable use of the Centre. As a result, the visitor centre is currently closed and there is no access to the toilets. We will continue, however, to work with the many schools in the area via the visitor centre; in fact we are hoping to increase this work in the near future, with more resources available to work with more children, families and schools. We will also continue to manage the stunning, beautiful nature reserve for wildlife and people and our ranger will continue to be based on site. As a conservation charity we simply cannot afford to keep the retail and café element of the visitor centre open for the very few visitors who are currently using it. We are implementing some detailed research to find the best way forward to ensure the visitor centre is put to a sustainable use in the long-term.

Chafford Gorges is within walking distance of Chafford Hundred railway station.

If you have more than one dog, they must all be on a lead. Maximum of four dogs allowed. At Lion Gorge, all dogs must be on a lead.
