The familiar drooping azure-blue spikes, carpeting woods in early spring
Although bluebell woods are a familiar sight in Britain, they occur almost nowhere else.  The are indicative of ancient woodland.
Bluebells are threatened by hybridisation with garden species, the Spanish Beluebell and it is illegal to dig up these stunning wild flowers.
