Take the opportunity to get outside, get involved, have fun and learn with Essex Wildlife Trust.
Essex Wildlife Trust works in a wide range of ways to teach children (and adults) about the natural world to ensure that wildlife remains a priority for future generations. We offer opportunities for people young and old to become enthused and informed about wildlife through our events, our schools programme and right here on our website.
Essex Wildlife Trust offers a wealth of learning opportunities outside the classroom at its 9 Visitor Centres. The centres offer exciting indoor and outdoor facilities to explore the natural world and discover the hidden wonders of our sites.
Each centre runs a range of outdoor learning programmes for different age groups. (EYFS, KS1-5).

Child-led learning is the main Forest School ethos. We plan a range of achievable activities and the children’s natural inquisitiveness and enthusiasm leads them into many areas of learning.
Our experienced Forest School trained staff can lead sessions in your school grounds or on nearby green spaces.

We run a calendar of great days out and fascinating talks for wildlife enthusiasts.
We also run events that will introduce your children to the natural world and give them opportunities to follow their enthusiasm for wildlife. Sign up for our family newsletter to receive regular updates about school half-term and holiday events.
All of our visitor centres offer wildlife-themed birthday parties for all ages. The sessions are packed with activities such as pond-dipping, shelter-building, treasure hunts, natural crafts and much more.
After a great time outside you will have use of a room to provide your own party tea.

Our visitor centres offer a fantastic range of weekly and monthly sessions for pre-school children and their families. They are a superb opportunity for little ones to experience the natural world.
They are a great chance for parents to meet new people and experience the outdoors, too.

There are many opportunities for youth organisations such as Cubs and Brownies to get involved, through attending evening activity sessions at an EWT visitor centre and nature reserve or involvement with a local project, which can help work towards achieving an interest badge. Staff and volunteers arrange bespoke sessions for Children’s Centres, physically and mentally disabled groups, adult groups, and many more to ensure every need is met where possible to engage a wide audience of people.
As well as the opportunity to join local talks, guided walks and other events, Essex Wildlife Trust offers a programme of courses for adults, and young people providing the opportunity to develop new skills.
Courses and work parties are run at various locations across the county and include otter and water vole surveying skills, a range of wildlife identification courses and practical conservation work parties.

Aimed at school children aged 7-11 we bring the marine environment alive, all in the safety (and warmth!) of an indoor swimming pool.
Through the use of realistic props like kelp forests, crabs and lobster pots we introduce topics such as species identification, food webs and habitats.
