The Royals Shopping Centre getting in the 'wild' spirit

The Royals Shopping Centre has taken part in Essex Wildlife Trust’s 30 Days Wild challenge for many years.  From visits to wildflower-filled meadows, to creating their own wildflower patches by planting seeds at home, enjoying the sunsets and taking in the fresh June air, the team at Royals have embraced what this challenge is all about.

Last year, they kicked off the challenge with a splash. 'Dancing in the rain' was scheduled in, but with glorious sunshine and blue skies, the team improvised. Instead, here we have Ami from the Events team, assisted by their security guard Michael, dancing in the hose pipe sprinkles!

A representative told us: "We have thoroughly enjoyed every day of 30 Days Wild in the past, and look forward to taking part this year. The challenge is a great way to get outside, take in our beautiful planet whilst bringing positivity to our wellbeing".

The Irownworks - Arts and Culture Centre

Although 30 Days Wild is celebrating its eight year of wildness, we love to hear about first-comers to the challenge. If you are thinking of participating for the first time, why not take a leaf out of The Ironworks' book?

If you haven't heard, this is new community arts complex for creative, educational, and immersive events to support good mental health and wellbeing is due to open in Southend-on-Sea High Street.

A representative from Ironworks told us: "We are thrilled to be taking part in this years 30 Days Wild with Essex Wildlife Trust. As we are currently in the 'building work phase’ of this new Art and Culture Community Centre for Southend it will be a pleasure to get outside in the fresh air, de-stress and take 5 minutes every day to do something wonderful."

1st Myland Guides Group

30 Days Wild is a challenge for everyone, and we have some dedicated wildlife lovers taking part every year. The 1st Myland Guides group have participated in the 30 Days Wild campaign since its inception.

Getting creative with their Random Acts of Wildness, the guides have done everything from litter picking with a twist - bingo litter picking where you collect a food item, item of clothing, something plastic etc. - what a fantastic idea. They have made their names out of wild materials (leaves, twigs, foliage), and let their imagination run wild by getting creative with nature journaling. The group enjoyed finding different species and learning to identify the wildflowers or insects they spotted.

Lizzy, a representative for the Guide group, says: "I’ve always loved to bring my love of wildlife to this age group of 10-14 year olds as so often they spend too long indoors – my happiest moment of 30 Days Wild last year was when I was sent a photo of a stag beetle that one of my Guides had found on her way home prompting us to have a good discussion the following week about stag beetles. I loved how genuinely excited Rachel was to show me a photo of one."
