About the event
Join Essex Wildlife Trust and EA Festival for an atmospheric evening with James Henry, author of the gripping Nick Lowry crime series – Blackwater, Yellowhammer, and Winter Visitor – author of four Jack Frost prequels, and regular on Radio 4 Tweet of the Day, as he talks about Lowry, Essex, his love of wildlife, and his newest book, The Winter Visitor.
Set entirely in Essex, Henry’s DI Nick Lowry novels follow the detective through the streets and outskirts of Colchester, Mersea Island, Coggeshall, and even tiny villages like Alphamstone. His depiction of 1980s Essex pulses with authenticity, conjuring the world of smoky police stations, townie-squaddie tensions and hidden gangland networks.
Henry’s prose is taut and his world-making richly immersive, with finely observed characters that are flawed and utterly believable – each one part of the intricate, slow-burn investigations that give the series its distinctive style.
As a devoted birder, James Henry brings a deep sensitivity to the Essex landscape, making this a particularly fitting collaboration between Essex Wildlife Trust and EA Festival. Expect a conversation that weaves together crime fiction, naturalism, and the unseen undercurrents of the county we call home.
Book your ticket now for what promises to be an evocative and uniquely local literary evening.
James Henry will be interviewed by Essex Wildlife Trust’s Chief Executive, Rich Yates, and EA Festival founder, Joanne Ooi.
