The Naze Stone Point Little Terns Guided Walk
, Walton on The Naze, Essex, CO14 8LE
Event details
About the event
The little tern is our smallest breeding seabird and one of the rarest - barely 1,000 pairs annually. They spend just three months with us before returning to their winter quarters around West Africa. The small colony in Hamford Water is by far the largest in Essex.
The nesting birds can be viewed from Stone Point but these views may be distant. However the birds may often be seen feeding at relatively close range in Walton Channel and just offshore. Although this is by no means certain, this does offer a good chance of seeing these tiny birds plunge diving for small fish.
This walk is about five miles, will take up to three hours and, being over high tide, the return can be wet and muddy. Please bring water and wear appropriate footwear.
It is advisable to bring binoculars to this walk.
£7 per Adult £2 per Child
