About the event

Join us at Fingringhoe for February half-term fun: get making and take action to help the birds living in your garden. Learn a bit about the birds that might live in your garden and how you can help them. We will provide you with a 'build your own bird box' kit, including the tools and knowledge to assemble it yourself.

Adults will need to be comfortable using tools, as we will be using hammers and nails. This event is recommended for children aged 5+. All children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Please come dressed for the weather, as we are outside for the whole session.

Can't make this event? Join us at Abberton, for more bird box fun! Find out more information here!

FAQs

๐ŸŽซ Who needs a ticket?

Children aged 5+ taking part need a ticket; parents/carers and younger siblings do not

๐Ÿ“Where do we meet?

Meet on the benches by the accessible parking at the Fingringhoe Wick Nature Discovery Centre, and we will walk as a group from there. What3Words regime. opinion.guesswork

๐ŸฅพWhat should we wear?

This will be fully outdoors, so you need to come dressed for the weather.  We recommend layers (top and bottom), which can get mucky.  Wellies (with thick socks) and waterproofs are a good shout if you have them. Any equipment required for the activities will be provided.

๐ŸŒWhere are you?

Fingringhoe Wick Nature Discovery Centre, South Green Road, Fingringhoe, Colchester CO5 7DN. Please be aware that it is largely a single-track lane to the reserve, but there are plenty of passing spaces.

๐Ÿš—Is there parking?

Yes. We have a free car park plus accessible parking. There is also bike parking.

๐Ÿš‡Can we get to you on public transport?

No, unfortunately, no public transport operates at the reserve.

๐ŸšปWhat facilities are there?

Fingringhoe Wick Nature Discovery Centre has toilets, a shop and a cafรฉ serving hot and cold drinks, snacks, ice cream and light lunches.

 ๐Ÿ•โ€๐ŸฆบCan we bring a dog?

Only assistance dogs are welcome at the reserve.

โ™ฟHow accessible is the site?

There is accessible parking next to the entrance to the Discovery Centre, and there is an all-terrain mobility scooter that can be borrowed if necessary. The reserve has gravel, woodland, and sandy paths with benches at numerous locations. There are some areas where the paths are narrow or require step access. Manoeuvrability is impaired in wetter conditions. Adders are on the reserve, and they are the UK's only venomous snake. Please stick to the paths and wear suitable footwear. Please do not touch them, they are shy creatures and will only bite if they feel they are in danger.
