The Big Wild Seed Sow gave thousands of individuals and families the chance to take action for wildlife in their gardens this autumn.

From August – October, we asked you to head to one of our Nature Discovery Centres and collect one of our free packets of wildflower seeds. Once you’d sown them in your garden, you could then add your patch onto virtual map to see new wildflower corridors being created across Essex.

In total, 9,051 packets of wildflower seed were collected from our centres and sown across gardens in Essex. We loved seeing so many of you take Action For Insects this autumn.

We’re also grateful to local businesses, corporate supporters and other charities who took part. The last patch sown this autumn was at Colchester Zoo in their nature area.

Come spring, we will see hundreds of thousands of new wildflowers bloom in Essex which will provide our all-important insects with food, shelter and places to breed.

Thank you to everyone who got involved in The Big Wild Seed Sow, you’re helping our drastically declining insects happily fly, jump and flutter from wildflower to wildflower across the entire county once again.

The Big Wild Seed Sow was in-part funded by CNH Industrial, whose amazing Essex workforce took part in the initiative with their families. Thank you!
