About the event

Cyanotype is one of the oldest photographic printing processes, first developed in the 1800s. Even earlier ideas of image-making with light date back to around 300 AD, when the first recorded observations of projected images were described through early optical experiments.

Using light-sensitive paper and sunlight, objects are placed directly onto the surface to create beautiful blue and white prints.

At the workshop, participants will explore this simple but magical process by experimenting with natural objects, shapes, and found materials to create their own unique images. Cyanotype connects art, science, and nature, encouraging slow looking, creativity, and a deeper connection with the environment.

Hosted at the Naze Discovery Centre, this hands-on session invites all ages to discover an early photographic technique and experience the wonder of making images using only light, objects, and the sun.

Drop in session - no booking required.

Facilities at The Naze include café, shop, toilets, disabled toilets, baby changing and car park (fees apply).
