Intermediate Cyanotype Workshop: Mixing & Coating Materials
Theme: Texture, Imprint & Place
📍 The Naze Discovery Centre
⏰ Duration: 3 hours
💷 Cost: £45 per person
Step deeper into the mesmerising world of cyanotype printing in this intermediate-level workshop, designed for those who have experienced the basics and are ready to expand their practice.
Guided by the theme “Texture, Imprint & Place”, this session invites you to explore how materials, surfaces, and found objects can tell a story — capturing a moment, a memory, or a connection to the landscape.
In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to mix and apply your own cyanotype emulsion using the traditional chemicals ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide, gaining a deeper understanding of the process.
We will move beyond paper and explore printing on a range of alternative materials, including:
– Cotton fabric
– Wood surfaces
– Shells and found natural objects
Participants are encouraged to bring their own objects to experiment with — from delicate, opaque forms like leaves and feathers to more solid, textured items that create bold and unexpected imprints.
This workshop offers a calm, creative space to slow down, experiment, and deepen your practice — embracing both the unpredictability and beauty of this historic photographic process.
All materials are included. Just bring your curiosity (and any objects you’d like to print with).
Led by Rebecca Cross – RootsshootsPhotography, photographer and educator specialising in alternative processes and mindful image-making.
Spaces are limited. Booking essential.
Facilities at The Naze include café, shop, toilets, disabled toilets, baby changing and car park (fees apply).
