About the event
Come visit us this February half-term, where you can get making and take action to help the birds living in your garden. Learn about the birds that might live in your garden and how you can help them!
We will give you a build your own bird box kit, the tools, and the knowledge to assemble it yourself!
Adults will need to be comfortable using tools, as we will be using hammers and nails. This event is recommended for children aged 5+. Please follow the signs to the mound, behind the visitor centre to find us.

🎫 Who needs a ticket to attend?
All children require a ticket to attend this event. Adults do not require a ticket.
🏠Will I get to take my bird box home?
Yes, you will make a wooden bird box and take it home when you are done
🕊️Where do I put my bird box?
Advice on bird box placement will be given in the session
🎒What do I need to bring with me?
This session will take place outside, so wear suitable clothing. Otherwise, you just need to bring yourself! All tools and resources will be provided.
📍Where do we meet?
Meet on the mound behind the visitor centre.
🥾What should we wear?
Most of our events are fully outdoors, and you need to come dressed for the weather. We recommend layers (top and bottom), which can get mucky. Wellies (with thick socks) and waterproofs are a good shout if you have them.
🌍Where are you based?
We are located in Mid-Essex, local to Chelmsford, Ingatestone, Billericay, Wickford, South Woodham Ferrers, and Basildon.
🚗Is there parking?
Yes. We have a large free car park.
🚇Can we get to you on public transport?
We are accessible by bus, with bus stops outside the centre and 10 minutes away. We are not accessible by train.
🚻Are there toilets?
Toilets are located inside the visitor centre.
☕Is there a Cafe or shop?
The visitor centre has a shop and café serving hot and cold drinks, snacks, ice cream, and light lunches.
🐕🦺Can we bring a dog?
Assistance dogs are welcome at our events.
♿Is it wheelchair accessible?
Our reserve pathways are flat and easy to push wheelchairs, but our activities mound can be slippy, which could make it difficult to push wheelchairs up
