About the event

Celebrate World Book Day with us at Fingringhoe, where nature and our favourite stories will come together for a fun session of creativity!

You will be able to create your own natural bookmark, identify famous woodland creatures from your favourite books, and enjoy reading some books in one of our cosy reading nooks. You can also take part in a short story competition about Billie Badger (comic strips welcome too!)

This is a drop-in event; you are more than welcome to join us when you would like, but you will require a ticket to attend.

The centre is also accepting book donations, so you could bring along your old books and have a look at getting some new ones!

FAQs

๐ŸŽซ Who needs a ticket?

Children aged 2+ taking part need a ticket; parents/carers and younger siblings do not

๐Ÿ“Where do we meet?

Meet on the benches by the accessible parking at the Fingringhoe Wick Nature Discovery Centre, and we will walk as a group from there. What3Words regime. opinion.guesswork

๐ŸฅพWhat should we wear?

This will be fully outdoors, so you need to come dressed for the weather.  We recommend layers (top and bottom), which can get mucky.  Wellies (with thick socks) and waterproofs are a good shout if you have them. Any equipment required for the activities will be provided.

๐ŸŒWhere are you?

Fingringhoe Wick Nature Discovery Centre, South Green Road, Fingringhoe, Colchester CO5 7DN. Please be aware that it is largely a single-track lane to the reserve, but there are plenty of passing spaces.

๐Ÿš—Is there parking?

Yes. We have a free car park plus accessible parking. There is also bike parking.

๐Ÿš‡Can we get to you on public transport?

No, unfortunately, no public transport operates at the reserve.

๐ŸšปWhat facilities are there?

Fingringhoe Wick Nature Discovery Centre has toilets, a shop and a cafรฉ serving hot and cold drinks, snacks, ice cream and light lunches.

 ๐Ÿ•โ€๐ŸฆบCan we bring a dog?

Only assistance dogs are welcome at the reserve.

โ™ฟHow accessible is the site?

There is accessible parking next to the entrance to the Discovery Centre, and there is an all-terrain mobility scooter that can be borrowed if necessary. The reserve has gravel, woodland, and sandy paths with benches at numerous locations. There are some areas where the paths are narrow or require step access. Manoeuvrability is impaired in wetter conditions. Adders are on the reserve, and they are the UK's only venomous snake. Please stick to the paths and wear suitable footwear. Please do not touch them, they are shy creatures and will only bite if they feel they are in danger.
