River Champions

River Champions

Our vision of a Wilder Essex cannot happen without grassroots, community-led action. Rivers are at the heart of our local communities, urban and rural. We need to create a network of people across Essex who act as champions of Essex’s Rivers. Our River Champions are a vital part in helping us monitor, protect and enhance local river habitats, as well as initiate local river restoration projects.

Do you want to lead change in your community?

Become a River Champion

River Champions are people that want to take action for rivers, whether it be helping remove invasive species, reporting pollution incidents or raising local awareness. However you want to get involved, we will join you on your journey, supporting you with training and resources, connecting you with other Champions, celebrating and promoting your work.

You can also become a River Champion Surveyor, where you will be formally enrolled as a Essex Wildlife Trust Volunteer and take part in Citizen Science projects.

To kickstart your River Champion journey sign up below. You will receive an agreement form and toolkit.
