Continuing a lifelong commitment to nature

Continuing a lifelong commitment to nature

Tom's love of nature began in childhood and has remained a lifelong passion. After 15 years of volunteering with Essex Wildlife Trust, he has chosen to leave a gift in his Will, helping protect wild places for generations to come.

For Tom, a love of nature has been a lifelong passion. From exploring the outdoors as a boy and discovering insects, to walking holidays spent exploring historic places and heritage sites, nature and the world around him have always been an important part of his life.

Now retired from the museum service, where he spent his career working with history and heritage, including natural history collections, Tom has carried that curiosity and appreciation for the natural world with him throughout life.

Having lived in Colchester for more than 25 years, Tom has seen Essex Wildlife Trust grow and develop over the years. He has been particularly impressed by the Trust's confidence and commitment to protecting and enhancing the habitats that our wildlife depends on.

For Tom, the importance of nature hasn't diminished with age. If anything, his knowledge and understanding of wildlife has deepened.

"It's just as important as it was when I was a kid. I know more about nature now and know most birds flying."

Tom has also been a long standing volunteer with the Trust, giving his time for a least 15 years. His involvement has brought more than the satisfaction of contributing to nature conservation; it's also given him friendships, activities and a sense of being part of something meaningful.

It was this combination of his lifelong love of nature and his admiration for the Trust's work that inspired Tom to leave a gift in his Will.

"I can continue helping the Wildlife Trust after I've gone"

For Tom, leaving a gift in his Will is a natural extension of the suppoirt he has given throughout his lifetime. He hopes that his contribution will help the Trust continue its vital work protecting wildlife and habitats for years to come.

A gift in a Will is a lasting way to continue supporting the causes that matter most to us. It means Tom's passion for nature can continue to make a difference, helping protect Essex's wildlife and wild places for future generations.

His legacy is one of curiosity, commitment and a lifelong love of the natural world.  A love that Tom hopes will live on long after he has gone.
