About the event

Following last year's amazing "A Midsummer Nights Dream", Southend Shakespeare Company return with a fabulous production of Aphra Behn's Restoration Comedy masterpiece "The Rover"!

Aphra Behn was the first woman to be a professional writer, a spy in Holland for Charles II, a staunch supporter of the Stuarts and should be much better known! She is buried in Westminster Abbey and was a favourite of Virginia Woolf! "The Rover" is her best known and most frequently performed play.

This play is ideal for anyone with a sense of humour!

Bring a seat or blanket, pack a picnic and come along to enjoy a riotous and anarchic comedy filled with seduction, intrigue, swordfights and danger! (A typical saturday night in Leigh-On-Sea!!)

Tickets are available on the night and the Centre cafe will be open throughout.

If you missed last year's awesome extravaganza, or even if you didn't (!), then make a date with The Rover this July!
