About the event
Sea Creatures Printing Day
Saturday 22nd August Naze Centre
You will have the opportunity to try two interesting and effective printing methods to produce simple images of sea creatures or sea weeds. You can bring your own sketches or source material or use those I have collected together. You will not need to bring anything else apart from an old shirt of pinny to stop ink getting on your clothes.
This booking is for the first session which is:
Drypoint (intaglio) 10:30 - 12:30
Drypoint is an intaglio printmaking method where you will scratch an image of a sea creature into a flat plate of acetate or board with a sharp, pointed needle.
The pressure of the needle pushes the displaced material up into a raised ridge alongside the groove, known as a "burr". These burrs can trap ink, producing a beautifully soft and velvety line when printed. You will spread across the entire surface of the plate then wipe it away, leaving ink inside the grooves. You will place the plate is placed on my etching press, cover it with damp, absorbent printmaking paper, and turn the press tightly. Pressure forces the paper into the grooves to pick up the ink
If you wish to try linocut printing in the afternoon as well, please book a seperate ticket to that part of the workshop.
£22 a ticket, per workshop (£44 for the full day).
Facilities at The Naze include café, shop, toilets, disabled toilets, baby changing and car park (fees apply).
