About the event

Moths occur in great diversity in Essex, and plenty call the woods and meadows of our Roding Valley reserve, on the cusp of urban North East London, home. Moth mornings at Roding have always been popular and well received. We hope, weather permitting, to get together and go through the contents of our big MV Moth trap at the Grange Farm Centre, just outside the reserve's boundaries.

Join us for one of the last opportunities to connect with these nocturnal beauties of the summer season, and, hopefully, experience the unique colours and tones of some of our Autumn flying species, which may include such beauties as Canary Shouldered Thorn. It is always a surprise what is going to be in the trap, and no species can every be guaranteed. 

Please note this event is weather dependent, including upon conditions the night before.

📍Where do we meet? 

Please meet at the Grange Farm Centre   

🌳Will the activities take place outside?  

Yes, we will be outside for the whole session. 

🌍Where are you based?  

We are located in Chigwell, close to Loughton, Debden, and Epping.   

🚗Is there parking?     

Yes, we have two large free car parks 

🥾What should we wear?  

Please dress for being outside - lots of layers. If it has been raining, the paths will be muddy and have lots of puddles, so wellies or boots are advised. 

🚻Are there toilets?                                                                                                      

Yes, the Grange Farm Centre has toilets. There are no other facilities on site.   

☕ Is there a café or a shop? 

There is not a café or a shop at Grange farm, but you are more than welcome to bring snacks with you. 

🐕‍🦺Can we bring a dog?  

Assistance dogs are welcome at our events.  

♿Will the event be accessible? 

Grange Farm (including the woodland) is accessible to wheelchair users and buggies alike. A large disabled toilet with baby changing facilities is available in the centre.
