Abberton Reservoir Nature Discovery Centre is set within the wider landscape of Essex & Suffolk Water’s Abberton Reservoir. This internationally important wetland is one of Europe’s top sites for wildlife and provides a vital safe haven for wild ducks, swans, and other waterbirds, as well as offering a unique setting for meetings, events, and private hire.
Location and accessibility
Abberton Reservoir Nature Discovery Centre in Colchester is within easy reach of Mersea Island, Tiptree, and surrounding Essex villages, making it a convenient destination for local visitors. Just 20 minutes from the A12, the site is easy to access by road.
There is a large free car park with designated disabled parking bays. The single-storey building is DDA compliant and includes accessible toilets and baby changing facilities, ensuring a fully inclusive and accessible venue for all visitors.
Meeting room hire
The room is available for hire for a wide range of uses, including corporate events, celebrations, private gatherings, and a variety of professional and community activities such as meetings, presentations, workshops, and training sessions. The flexible space is suitable for everything from small group meetings to structured business events.
The room accommodates a range of seating styles and capacities: theatre style up to 35 people, classroom up to 30 people, boardroom up to 12 people, and standing up to 40 people.
Hire is available seven days a week with flexible booking options, including hourly, half day and full day hire between 9.30am and 4.30pm, making it easy for organisations and individuals to choose a time that suits their schedule.
Catering and on site facilities
On site, a café offers a selection of hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, toasties, and Tiptree patisserie cakes. Catering can also be arranged for meetings and events, and guided walks may be available on request, providing an additional experience alongside your booking.
