About the event
With Christmas approaching, we sometimes feel compelled to bring evergreen foliage into our homes. Three species in particular, besides our Christmas trees of course, seem to have captured our Christmas imagination down the years. Holly, Ivy and Mistletoe are steeped in symbolism and stories, some of which date back to pre-Christian winter celebrations.
Come along and learn about ivy, so vital to so many invertebrates; holly, whose prickly cover benefits a range of mammals and birds; and strange, parasitic mistletoe with its white berries.
Christmas hats optional but encouraged.
