Celebrate International Women's Day with the women that work for Essex Wildlife Trust.

The women of Essex Wildlife Trust

International Women’s Day has been celebrated globally since 1911.

The day is an opportunity to recognise and champion the achievements of women, with the aim of focusing global attention on important issues: gender equality, bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.

The United Nations’ theme for celebrating International Women’s Day 2023 is #EmbraceEquity. Equality is the goal, and equity is the means to get there. Equal opportunities are not enough. People start from different places, so true inclusion and belonging require equitable action.

At Essex Wildlife Trust, we realise the value and importance of our female workforce in promoting a wilder county.

As the statistics below demonstrate, Essex Wildlife Trust is comprised of an inspirational team of women. Staff records show that the percentage of women working at our Trust has never fallen below 60% in almost a decade. Adding to this, nearly half of volunteers are women - that's almost 1,000 women donating their time and effort to work towards a wilder future for Essex.

We want to say thank you to all the women that work within the wildlife and conservation sector - we couldn't do it without you.

Women in practical conservation

Last year, Landscape Conservation Area Manager, Emma Ormond-Bones, and Katie Goldsbrough, Essex Wildlife Trust Ambassador, got together to put the realities of practical conservation for women into words. Together, they talk about physical limitations for women in conservation and discuss stereotypes and prejudices against women in the field.
