Essex Wildlife Trust takes part in 5kMay

Terry Whittaker

Challenge yourself to run, walk, roll, skip or swim 5k this May, donate £5 to Essex Wildlife Trust and nominate 5 friends to help us protect wildlife and wild places in Essex.

If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that the smallest things can make the biggest impact.

Last year, Run for Heroes started the infamous 5k running challenge – Run 5, Donate 5, Nominate 5 – during the first lockdown. They raised more than £7 million for NHS Charities and after the success of the original fundraiser, the nation is once again being encouraged to get active in the name of charity as lockdown restrictions continue to ease.

Run for Heroes is launching its latest challenge by turning the month of May into a celebration of physical activity with their 5kMay campaign. Essex Wildlife Trust has partnered with Run for Heroes and charities across the UK to be involved in 5kMay, with supporters able to nominate the partnered charity of their choice.

Participants can run, walk, roll, skip or even swim your 5km. You can take part on your own as a group, then once you’ve completed your challenge, donate your £5 then nominate five friends to take part.

Each £5 donated to Essex Wildlife Trust will help the Trust continue to protect the wild spaces of Essex for wildlife and for local communities, help us bring back rare and threatened species and habitats and work to create a Wilder Essex.

Signing up for 5kMay is simple – enter your name and email address and receive a free toolkit from Run for Heroes and donate directly to Essex Wildlife Trust online.

Once you’ve completed your challenge share your success on social media, tagging Essex Wildlife Trust and using #5kMay and #EssexWildWarrior.
