New badger cubs spotted at Fingringhoe Wick

New arrival of badger cubs at Fingringhoe Wick Nature Discovery Centre, in Colchester

Five badger cubs have been spotted during one of our popular badger watching experiences offered at Fingringhoe Wick Nature Discovery Park; the highest number ever recorded at the sett, where previously only three cubs had been seen.

Visitors were also treated to the sighting of the cubs exploring outside, alongside adult badgers in their nature habitat, with 12 badgers spotted at the same time, another record for the reserve.

This sighting is positive news for the reserve and highlights the success of conservation efforts at this nature reserve since 1961. Thanks to the support of our members and volunteers, the reserve is now one of the most biodiverse nature reserves in the county.

Badger watching evenings at Fingringhoe Wick Nature Discovery Park runs from April – October on Tuesdays and Saturdays, led by our expert volunteers. Spaces are limited and they typically sell out fast, so make sure you book early.

Sophie Burton, from Essex Wildlife Trust, says:

“It was truly an amazing experience. Watching wild badgers in their natural environment was a fantastic experience, and seeing the new cubs thriving at Fingringhoe Wick made the evening even more special. It was wonderful to see the badger families so up close with such knowledgeable, passionate guides, creating unforgettable moments.”
